Over de tentoonstelling (NL)
Henk Delabie is curator van de nieuwe expo “WAARTS” in het Kunstenhuis in Harelbeke, een tentoonstelling waar voornamelijk sculpturaal werk wordt getoond. “WAARTS” kan begrepen worden als ‘richting’, op-waarts, neer-waarts, zij-waarts, achter-waarts, oost-waarts,… termen die bij uitstek te maken hebben met het bepalen van beweging in de ruimte. Deze expo vertrekt vanuit de kunstpraktijk van kunstenaars. Ze bevraagt de sculptuur op zich of in relatie tot de ruimte. Een diverse groep kunstenaars geven elk een eigen beeld omtrent de sculptuur.

Henk Delabie is curator of the new expo “WAARTS” at the Kunstenhuis in Harelbeke, an exhibition showing mainly sculptural work. “WAARTS” can be understood as “direction”, up-ward, down-ward, side-ward, back-ward, east-ward,… terms that are pre-eminently related to defining movement in space. This exhibition starts from the artistic practice of artists. It questions sculpture in itself or in relation to space. A diverse group of artists each give their own view on sculpture.

Huis De Baere aan de Marktstraat 100 in Harelbeke is een fraai neoclassicistisch herenhuis van 1771. Het huis is vernoemd naar de koopmansfamilie Debaere, die het in 1935 verwierf. In de 70er jaren kwam Huis De Baere in bezit van de Stad Harelbeke en werd in het 1976 beschermd als monument. Het gebouw herbergde vele jaren het Pijp- en Tabaksmuseum dat inzoomde op het rijke ambachtsverleden van de streek.
In 2014 richtte de Stad Harelbeke Huis De Baere in als een interactieve plek voor kunst en cultuur en tussen 2014 en 2019 organiseerde de stad meer dan twintig tentoonstellingen telkens met de focus op hedendaagse Belgische kunst.
In 2020 nam Kunstenhuis Harelbeke vzw, opgericht door een achttal kunstliefhebbers en kunstenaars, de organisatiefakkel over om in het Huis Debaere jaarlijks 2 inspirerende concepttentoonstellingen te realiseren, aangevuld met een een programma van lezingen, geleide bezoeken en nocturnes. Elke concepttentoonstelling wordt opgezet als een groepsexpositie met een tiental kunstenaars, rond een al dan niet strikt gedefinieerd thema. (Jonge) Belgische of op een of andere manier met België verbonden kunstenaars een (eerste) podium geven blijft voor Kh hierbij steeds het belangrijkste focuspunt. De titels van onze tentoonstellingen verraden hierbij een zeker zoeken naar het onverwachte, het experimentele en misschien wel het tegendraadse: 30 onder 30, Nacht und Nebel, Apollowlands, FUCK YOU!, What my body knew and forgot to tell me, 404 Page not Found, Home Sweet Home, Don’t Mention The War, Forza Femina, #Frivool!, Les Wallons sont là — L’art Belge ne rime…

Huis De Baere at Marktstraat 100 in Harelbeke is a beautiful neoclassical mansion from 1771. The house is named after the merchant family Debaere, who acquired it in 1935. In the 1970s, Huis De Baere came into the possession of the City of Harelbeke and was protected as a monument in 1976. The building housed the Pipe and Tobacco Museum for many years, which zoomed in on the rich craft history of the region.
In 2014, the City of Harelbeke set up Huis De Baere as an interactive place for art and culture and between 2014 and 2019, the city organized more than twenty exhibitions, each with a focus on contemporary Belgian art.
In 2020, Kunstenhuis Harelbeke vzw, founded by eight art enthusiasts and artists, took over the organizational torch to realize 2 inspiring concept exhibitions every year in the Huis Debaere, supplemented by a program of lectures, guided visits and nocturnes. Each concept exhibition is set up as a group exhibition with ten artists, around a theme that may or may not be strictly defined. Giving (young) Belgian or in some way connected to Belgium artists a (first) stage remains the main focus point for Kh. The titles of our exhibitions betray a certain search for the unexpected, the experimental and perhaps the contrary: 30 under 30, Nacht und Nebel, Apollowlands, FUCK YOU!, What my body knew and forgot to tell me, 404 Page not Found , Home Sweet Home, Don’t Mention The War, Forza Femina, #Frivool!, Les Wallons sont là — L’art Belge ne rime…
