Met zijn zwervende, poëtische blik verkent Jean-Baptiste Janisset sinds enkele jaren zichtbare en onzichtbare werelden die kunst combineren met magie, occultisme en alchemie. Hij verkent de meest uiteenlopende gebieden en gaat op zoek naar een spiritueel erfgoed dat bestaat uit kerken, begraafplaatsen — al deze funeraire kunsten met bas-reliëfversieringen die religieuze of symbolische motieven, planten of menselijke figuren combineren. Hiervoor bewandelt hij paden die tegen elke cartografie ingaan, put hij kracht uit oude en mystieke symbolen, tussen kansen en risico’s legt hij geleidelijk een route af die resoneert met de cycli van het leven. Van Abomey naar Marseille, waar hij nu woont, van Nantes naar Dijon, vervolgens van Ajaccio naar Algiers, via Parijs, Bastia, Saint Étienne en vele andere steden, geeft de kunstenaar in de loop der tijd vorm aan een palimpsest territorium.

With his wandering poetic eye, Jean-Baptiste Janisset has for several years been exploring visible and invisible worlds that combine art with magic, the occult and alchemy. Surveying a wide range of territories, he sets out in search of a spiritual heritage made up of churches and cemeteries — all these funerary arts with bas-relief decorations combining religious or symbolic motifs, plants or human figures. To do this, he takes paths that go against the grain of any cartography, drawing strength from ancient and mystical symbols, taking opportunities and risks, and gradually tracing an itinerary that resonates with the cycles of life. From Abomey to Marseille, where he now lives, from Nantes to Dijon, then from Ajaccio to Algiers, via Paris, Bastia, Saint Étienne and many other towns, the artist is shaping a palimpsest territory over time.

ELDERS is een nomadisch collectief voor de presentatie van hedendaagse artistieke praktijken in Kortrijk en regio. ELDERS organiseert tentoonstellingen in de Kortrijkse binnenstad. Door het nomadische aspect verhuizen de projecten telkens naar aangepaste locaties. ELDERS wil niet enkel gevestigde kunstenaars maar ook jonge talenten in het begin van hun carrière een platform geven. ELDERS werd opgericht in 2021. De huidige leden zijn Petrus Paklons, Hélène Depondt, Koen Titeca, Joachim Coucke, Dieter Van Caneghem, Joke Anckaert, Gilles Dedecker en Elisabeth Seynaeve. ELDERS heeft geen vaste openingsuren maar is gebonden aan tentoonstellingen doorheen het jaar. Hou dus zeker deze en onze website in de gaten voor opkomende tentoonstellingen.

ELDERS is a nomadic collective for the presentation of contemporary artistic practices in Kortrijk and the region. ELDERS organizes exhibitions in Kortrijk’s city centre. Due to the nomadic aspect, the projects always move to adapted locations. ELDERS wants to give a platform not only to established artists, but also to young talents at the start of their careers. ELDERS was founded in 2021. The current members are Petrus Paklons, Hélène Depondt, Koen Titeca, Joachim Coucke, Dieter Van Caneghem, Joke Anckaert, Gilles Dedecker en Elisabeth Seynaeve.
