About the exhibition

The Rota­ry Cul­tu­re Pri­ze for Visu­al Arts 2025 has been awar­ded to Hei­di Leman.
In addi­ti­on, Nele Vanthom­me and Fem­ke Tal­pe have been recog­ni­zed as pri­ze­win­ners for their work.

The exhi­bi­ti­on ​‘Tri­dent’ is cura­ted by artist Klaas Rom­me­lae­re (Roe­se­la­re, 1986). Trai­ned at the Roy­al Aca­de­my of Fine Arts in Ghent and known for his visu­al work with need­le, thread, and tex­ti­les, Rom­me­lae­re also defi­ned the the­me for this year’s com­pe­ti­ti­on:
​“Memo­ry: a thread through time and space.”

The lau­re­a­te recei­ves, in addi­ti­on to par­ti­ci­pa­ti­on in the exhi­bi­ti­on, a per­so­na­li­zed men­tor­ship pro­gram led by Rom­me­lae­re. This inclu­des a stu­dio visit, port­fo­lio review, and cura­to­ri­al sup­port in pre­pa­ring the exhibition.

The Artists

Hei­di Leman (Spe­ci­a­li­sa­ti­on) pre­sents a series of sculp­tu­res and dra­wings. Her work is dee­ply inspi­red by ima­gery of decay, ruins, and crum­bling architecture.

From the dysto­pi­an, we move into the dream­li­ke world of Nele Vanthom­me (Pro­ject Ate­lier). In her poe­tic uni­ver­se, she com­bi­nes found mate­ri­als into new immersi­ve installations.

The tex­ti­le works of Fem­ke Tal­pe (Tex­ti­le Art) appear deli­ca­te and orga­nic. They cap­ti­va­te through their colour and poe­tic resonance.

The exhi­bi­ti­on, fea­tu­ring the work of the lau­re­a­te and pri­ze­win­ners, opens on Fri­day, Octo­ber 24 at 7:00 PM, and can be freely visi­ted during the third edi­ti­on of Kort­rijk Art Week­end.
The exhi­bi­ti­on runs until Novem­ber 28, 2025.

The Rota­ry Cul­tu­re Pri­ze is orga­ni­zed by Aca­de­mie Kort­rijk, in col­la­bo­ra­ti­on with the three Rota­ry Clubs of Kort­rijk and the City of Kort­rijk, aiming to sup­port pro­mi­s­ing artists and offer them a plat­form within the broa­der cul­tu­ral field.

Aca­de­mie Kort­rijk toont! Ten­toon­stel­len leert je te reflec­te­ren over het artis­tiek pro­cess. Het is cru­ci­aal om feed­back te krij­gen en je visie te delen met ande­ren. Daar­om is pre­sen­ta­tie van het artis­tie­ke werk een belang­rijk facet bin­nen onze opleidingen.

Onze cen­tra­le hal in een mooi his­to­risch gebouw op de Hout­markt fun­geert als ten­toon­stel­lings­ruim­te. Hier tonen we met trots de artis­tie­ke wer­ken van zowel eigen stu­den­ten als de pro­fes­si­o­ne­le kunstenaar.
