About the exhibition
mimesis 06: the body is a strange thing
“The body is a strange thing” is a phrase that has long resonated in the mind of artist and curator Erik Haemers. For the sixth mimesis exhibition at 4n20, he takes it as the starting point for an exhibition about the body in art, design and beyond.
How is the body represented and used? How do we protect it, how do we care for it, and what is it capable of? Movement, strength, vulnerability, care. A list of action verbs forms a thread running through the exhibition.
Haemers has invited 21 makers. Alongside artists and designers such as An Roovers, Henk Delabie, Lore Stessel, Judith Van Oeckel, James Van Vossel and Murielle Victorine Scherre, companies are also taking part: Materialise with an aMace hip implant, Orfit with radiotherapy masks, Sioen with technical textiles and Jutec with heat-resistant clothing.
4n20 is an independent art space in a former weaving workshop in Kortrijk, celebrating its fifth anniversary this year. The space is run entirely by volunteers, and admission is free. From 27 October to 8 November, 4n20 is also one of the venues for WONDER.

About the location
4n20 is a non-profit space for art in a former weaving factory. A space that breathes history, a relic of Kortrijk’s textile past. The studio has a soul and is the carrier of the art that is shown there. 4n20 annually organizes a number of exhibitions with a diversity of contemporary works of art, in which different disciplines are discussed. 4n20 offers space for visual art by established and lesser-known artists. There is also room for experimentation, music, dance and word art.
