SARA BERVOETS
About the exhibition
Sara Bervoets (Antwerp, 1991) grew up in an artist family, which was not always a bed of roses, but was the foundation (and early necessity) for her to express herself emotionally through her work. This process began at a young age, starting in 1998; when her father came to visit, she would color in his drawings with felt-tip pens. In 2018, Sara showed work for the first time during the solo exhibition ‘Home’ at art space Kavka in Antwerp, which provided a clear picture of her great passion: shedding light on social injustice in its broadest sense. Sara hopes to help other people – and offer a sense of recognition – through her work, and wants to draw attention to why it is important to have a stable home as a foundation and why the need for proper shelter is a human right. There is much going on in the world that needs to be touched upon and named, and art is the means to awaken people, time and again, every day. The result is secondary to the motive behind why someone makes or does something, Sara believes: this makes the work credible and tangible, vulnerable and strong. It is an inexhaustible fire and a basic need that Sara must attend to every day.

Elle est conçue par l’architecte Nicolaes Devriendt.
