About the location

KUNST­WERKST­E­DE is an expe­ri­men­tal stu­dio ini­ti­a­ti­ve for visu­al artists loca­ted on the Land­Mar­ck site in Kort­rijk. The­se affor­da­ble workspa­ces pro­vi­de room for both emer­ging and esta­blis­hed artists and encou­ra­ge expe­ri­men­ta­ti­on, col­la­bo­ra­ti­on, and exchan­ge bet­ween dif­fe­rent artis­tic prac­ti­ces. This dyna­mic envi­ron­ment fos­ters cross-pol­li­na­ti­on, new ide­as, and artis­tic growth within the local art scene.

The name Land­Mar­ck refers to the for­mer home base of Van Mar­c­ke, Belgium’s mar­ket lea­der in sani­ta­ry and hea­ting dis­tri­bu­ti­on sin­ce the 1960s. The site on Weg­ge­voer­den­laan ser­ved as the fami­ly company’s head­quar­ters for deca­des until its relo­ca­ti­on in 2019. In col­la­bo­ra­ti­on with the City of Kort­rijk, a new cre­a­ti­ve pur­po­se was then devel­o­ped to trans­form the area into a vibrant urban dis­trict whe­re peo­p­le can live, learn, think, and cre­a­te together
