About the exhibition

De voor­bije eeuw heeft een ware revo­lu­tie in mate­ri­a­len teweeg­ge­bracht. De objec­ten en mate­ri­a­len waar­mee we van­daag dage­lijks omgaan, zou­den voor iemand uit de tijd van de Eer­ste Wereld­oor­log haast onher­ken­baar zijn. De komst van com­pu­ter-onder­steund ont­werp heeft onze rela­tie tot vorm en mate­rie boven­dien een geheel nieuw esthe­tisch karak­ter gege­ven. Als reac­tie op deze snel­le evo­lu­tie van onze visu­e­le en tac­tie­le leef­we­reld, cureer­de Frock Gal­lery de ten­toon­stel­ling Hi, Lo-Tek., een heden­daag­se kunst­ex­po waar­in kun­ste­naars met uit­een­lo­pen­de bena­de­rin­gen samen­ko­men. Som­mi­gen gebrui­ken low-tech pro­ces­sen om ver­nieu­wen­de resul­ta­ten te berei­ken, ter­wijl ande­ren juist high-tech mate­ri­a­len en metho­des inzet­ten om nieu­we vor­men van expres­sie te verkennen.

About the location

Visit Frock Gal­lery’s Pop-up venue at Cohou­sing Ten Broe­le whe­re we’­re exhi­bi­ting with a group of pre­sen­ters in a tem­po­ra­ry ope­ning of this his­to­ric building.

Hi, Lo-Tek

In the past cen­tu­ry human inno­va­ti­on has wit­nes­sed a mate­ri­als revo­lu­ti­on. As a result, the dai­ly objects and mate­ri­als we inter­act with today would be unre­cog­ni­za­ble to tho­se living during the First World War. The intro­duc­ti­on of com­pu­ter aided design has fur­ther pus­hed our sha­red expe­rien­ce of objects towards new aes­the­tics. In res­pon­se to this swift evo­lu­ti­on of our visu­al and tac­ti­le expe­rien­ce, Frock Gal­lery has cura­ted, ​“Hi, Lo-Tek.” A con­tem­po­ra­ry art exhi­bi­ti­on fea­tu­ring artists using low-tech pro­ces­ses to pro­du­ce inno­va­ti­ve results and others using High-tech mate­ri­als and pro­ces­ses to pro­du­ce novel­ty works.
